Jeg Elsker Dansk Mode!

Only 5 months down the line and FINALLY I am allowed to post again!

After 5 months, living in Denmark I can tell you that although the weather is cold enough to make even the hardiest viking wince, the Danes can definitely dress.

Danish style is understated, minimal and structured.

Absolutely everything is beautifully simplistic and inviting!

Minimarket and Cheap Monday are both Swedish and both amazing! Check out the Minimarket AW11 collection, VIKING!

Denmark itself has a large network native designers, some more recognised than others. Malene Birger and Henrik Vibskov for example, however the lesser known designers and even student designers have an affinity for visualising and creating almost architectural shapes that transform the human silhouette and with the muted colour palette, (which is a favourite) the collections are all so powerful and interesting that it is impossible not to feel inquisitive and almost awe struck by them.

Vibskov!

Sure, historically Danish design has always been respected and revered and who doesn't love the "Sarah Lund-Esque," jumper collection, featured in Danish drama, The Killing?
Who isn't seduced by the sight of strapping, blondes, bracing the cold weather in their thick cable knit sweaters and a heavy fishing net in tow?

Lund- esque Scandinavian Knit.

Scandinavia is all about looking forward, not looking to over complicate and distract you from the elements of the fabric, it's colour it's texture, the tailoring and structure of a blazer is precise and a work of art.

Attention to detail to get the basics right is as important as creativity and innovativeness.

The design students at TEKO are the future of Scandinavian design, they are amazing!
Take a look!

She sells sanctuary!

The fashion set's love affair with, some might say, the exploitation of religion and religious imagery, never fails to create thought provoking, debate evoking designs and styling that could either be viewed as crass or courageous!

I would argue that with a cultural system that has been exploiting it's followers the world over, for thousands of years, they may be due a little payback!

I love religious artwork and I think it translates perfectly to fashion, creating images and art direction that never fails to stir emotion.

Uncomfortable? Incredible? Take a look at these and decide......

Originality Lives!

So it's really spring! Blessed with sporadic blasts of sunshine. Always expecting the obligatory April down pour, it's time to put those transitional pieces to good use.

Keeping my own wardrobe pretty casual around this time of year, with lots of layering to prepare for every eventuality I am loving the Adidas Originals Spring Women's collection.

No longer does Adidas and it's famous three stripes belong to the intimidating teens quaffing cider on the swings in your local park!

Thanks to the enormous amount of money Adidas have put into bringing on board music legends like Daft Punk and Snoop Dogg and Sporting Legends like David Beckham alongside collaborations with exciting designers, like, Jeremy Scott. The Adidas brand has propelled itself firmly back into the forefront of youth fashion.

Adidas Originals Women's Lookbook!

Jeremy Scott's new spring/summer 11 collection for the retro inspired line, injects interesting design features into the simple vest or pair of tracksuit bottoms.

Casual, cool, quirky and distinctly representative of both the brand and the designer, this collection looks set to be a scorcher!

Do you Prefer Fashion Forward or ensembley challenged?

With a fashion history mock exam looming over me, what better way to revise than to blog about my favourite decade! The 90's!

From TLC to Tone Loc! From Sister Sister to Swatch watches! The 90s wasn't all plaid shirts and painful poetic dirges!

T-Boz, Lisa Left Eye and Chilli! '92

Sure, in a nod to the crispy seattle weather "Barnies," and "Betties," alike embraced the lowly lumberjack look.

Smashing Pumpkins bassist D'arcy Wretzky totally embodies the quintessential grunge chick!
With roots as black as her soul and the eyebrows to match, Wretzky and the likes of Courtney Love put grunge girls on the map!

Wretzky

However with grunge back in a big way and with big guns like Marc Jacobs and Co jumping on the band wagon unfortunately sexually frustrated school girls have sought solace and shot for the grunge get-up! Cue Taylor Momsen!

MISS!

And anyway, away, with all the misery and self loathing sitting around in the 90s. What about the Fresh Prince, Spice Girls, Trolls and obviously I'd never forget Cher and Dion!

Clueless costume designer, Mona May talks about fun
fashion on the Clueless set!

Never ones to shy away from a pesky lil print! Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince!
VIBES!

Ghettolicious! Salt 'N' Pepa Pulling off the
Varsity in the Hood, vibe, ready for world
domination in the early nineties!

TROLLS! Put a gem in your belly button! (Don't!)

And finally a Clarissa montage!
Clash those prints! Dust of your DM'S!

Clarissa Explains It All!
